Merry Christmas

Doug and I have been non-stop since we arrived in Colorado! We actually don't even have much time to post right now, but a picture speaks 1000 words, so be sure to visit the "My Pictures" link on the left navigation bar to see what we've been up to so far. Hope everyone is having a fabulous Thanksgiving!

Blistery, Blustery Day

Wow, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We had a pretty snowy weekend. Friday night, we went out with our friends and neighbors, Mike and Nicole, yet again for a round of sushi. We took them to this place called Tsunami which turned out to be amazing as always. Doug and I had been there before, but this was a first for them. Afterwards, we came back to our place and watched Scrooged with Bill Murray. Actually, Nicole and I fell asleep for parts of it, but it was still a good time. Saturday was a lot of errands and getting ready to leave for Colorado this Friday. And Doug hung up that white shelf in our room so it's officially finished. Wow, that only took us a year. Saturday night, we had dinner with Doug's family at Winger's, and went and saw "A Christmas Carol" at a local theater. It was really neat as they sung, and the stage was one of those where people are seated on all sides of it. I had never experienced anything like it and it was a lot of fun. Today we made brownies and went to sacrament meeting. We only have sacrament until the end of the year as our ward split, and they're organizing it once again. It will be so nice to have a smaller ward again, Doug and I actually sat in the benches for the first time ever last week. We were early today, but still weren't able to squeeze in up there. Oh well. But check out the snow drifts in our backyard! The pictures will enlarge if you click on them. Then we went to Doug's family's house for dinner and opened presents with them. I can't believe his mom got me a whole set of china. It's gorgeous! I'll have to take a picture of it later. She did a great job picking it out, now I just need to find a place to display it. The rest of this week will be getting ready for Colorado, we're excited to see everyone!

New stuff

Sorry it's been awhile since I updated last, I have been sick for the past week and a half, and am just now starting to get a handle on things. I started out with a cold, and it worsened until it became sinusitis, or more commonly known as a sinus infection. I have been put on all sorts of drugs recently (including Lortab for the sinus headache pain,) but should be 100% soon.
A bunch of people from my work participated in this offer online where if you complete 18 offers, you can get things like a free iMac, a MacBook Pro, or a $2000 Visa gift card. Well, of course my first thought was that it was too good to be true. But then I heard all the tricks about it, and have seen about 5 or 6 of them receiving their new computer or laptop. Three of my other co-workers all sat down in October to try this out, and I just received my $2000 gift card this week! If any of you are interested in doing it, let me know and I'll email you all the info and tricks.
The weekend started out awful as we went to the fertility doctor Friday morning, with the bad news that I still have a 6 cm cyst hanging out on my ovary. This means we still can't do another round of insemination, which sucks because we definitely can't the next go around when I'm in Colorado and Doug is in Utah. So don't ask if we're pregnant, because it looks like it will be February at the earliest when we can start trying again. After the doctor, we were both pretty upset, and I wasn't feeling well. I showed Doug the gift card (as I had been keeping it a secret from him so it would be a nice surprise) and we immediately started spending. We bought him an elliptical, but right after that I felt so nauseous. I had taken two of my pills, and the combination of the two must have caused that. We went home where I lied in bed all afternoon.
We had some fun spending a lot more of it Saturday on clothes, shoes, and a new digital camera. The picture above was taken with it, it's so sweet! It also shows off Doug's new suit and one of my new sweaters. It's not very often money like this comes along where we can spoil ourselves, so we made sure we had a good time.

Here's the tree

YOU CAN TURN OFF THE MUSIC AT THE BOTTOM BEFORE PLAYING THE VIDEO CLIP, JUST CLICK ON PAUSE OR STOP TWICE. Here's the result of our tree so far. We've added more presents, but still haven't found any ornaments we like. Doug's home hanging out today on his day off, and I'm stuck at work with a bloody cold (not literally bloody, ew!) I'm pretty tired, so hopefully I can leave a little early. I'm going to Cafe Rio for lunch with some of the girls at work, and we're going to the Festival of Trees this weekend. I'll explain more about that later.

Deck the Halls

Thanksgiving was fun. It's always hard when you're not with YOUR family, but Doug has a superb family, so it was still lots of fun. I was also able to see my grrandpa, my aunt Holly, aunt Kristi, uncle Mike, and cousins Carrie, Corinne, and Lindsey. Doug and I went out shopping Firday morning, but not until like 9. No, we're not morning shoppers, and we didn't see anything appealing doorbusters in the ads anyway. Plus, we have our eyes set on a much BIGGER present that we'll be paying off for years to come (yes, besides fertility procedures.) I'll let you know what that is if/when it works out. Then we came home and sat around like bums the rest of the day. It's so nice to have some time off! I did get my wreath done that I had mentioned on an earlier blog as well. Compare it to the Pottery Barn wreath. I made an $80 wreath for about $16.50! We then bought a tree and came home and decorarated it. Now that we can buy a decent size tree, we need more ornaments! We'll have to search for those more later on as we didn't find any that we liked at Wal-Mart or Rod Works.
Today was the BYU/Utah game, so we watched that and had pizza and dip with Kolton and his friends at our house. I can't believe BYU won in the last second! What a let-down for the guys. I just looked down and saw Buddy sleeping by my feet, so there's a picture of that as well. Buddy's getting very clever when he wants a banana. You can see him pulling one off the table to devour. Don't worry though, I stopped him before it was too late.

New pictures

Hi all! Doug and I took some family pictures this weekend, here are a few. You can see the rest by clicking on my pictures link on the left side. Enjoy!

This weekend was spent putting up Christmas decorations around the house and deep cleaning only half the kitchen. I know, it's not even Thanksgiving, but I didn't get to put up ANY Christmas decor last year, and was so excited to. I'll be better next year, I promise. So I decorated Friday night, then we went grocery shopping and to Arby's for dinner. Saturday was the deep clean in the kitchen, which only consisted of cleaning all the vases on the top of my cabinets and finding a place for them in the cabinets. I also polished a beautiful silver platter that Doug's grandparents got for us when we got married. Since we had been craving sushi since Friday, we went to Mikado for some sushi. We tried eel for the first time, and it was delicious! Sunday we went and took family pictures with Doug's family. I got a few digitals with our camera of just the two of us, which we will be using to send out with our Christmas cards. I'll write more when something noteworthy happens.

Happy birthday, Mike!

Yesterday was both of our good friends' birthday's, Brady (the one in the picture below with Doug at Winger's), and Mike (the one at the corn maze with us.) We had Cafe Rio with Mike and Nicole last night, and Mike's sister, Michelle. During dinner, we watched The Office and Grey's Anatomy. Then we went over to their house and had cake and ice cream. We didn't even get home until 10:30, sheesh! I know, we're lamo's and go to bed early. We have no big plans this weekend. I'm planning on making a copy-cat wreath that I saw in the Pottery Barn catalog. But I don't have $80 to spend on a wreath, I think I can make one just as nice. We also need to get ready for Thanksgiving! My assignment was a fruit salad and some sort of dessert, so we'll see what happens.
The marketing department at work is going to Spaghetti Mama's, and then to the new 007 movie today, so that will be a nice Friday activity. Doug always has Friday's off, so he's probably sitting at home and playing Xbox or something like that. Lucky!

Doug singing

I caught Doug singing in the kitchen today, I thought you might get a kick out of it like I did! Make sure you turn the song playing at the bottom off before playing this one. You can also catch this video and others here.

Weekend update

Just another one of those busy weekends. Doug and I found out that we're NOT pregnant again on Friday. We took our neighbor, Danny, and his wife out to dinner (finally) for helping us put in our sod way back. We ran a ton of errands Saturday, and I decided to put up my manger scene since this is the first year I have (nearly) the complete set. Woo hoo! Then we went out to dinner at Winger's with our friends Rachel and Brady. There's a picture of Doug and Brady chowing down on their all you can eat wings. We watched Click at our house afterwards, and I thought it was better than I was expecting it to be. Today we went to the doctor, and he told us that I have a couple cysts, so I have to take birth control this month, and we'll do another round of insemination next month. Weird, right? That our infertility doctor prescribed us birth control, and told us not to reproduce. At least we have a sense of humor about it.

Halloween Costumes

Just a quick pic of our Halloween costumes. You can't see my face very well, but I drew a peace sign on my cheek, and wrote "Peace" on the other cheek. Doug and I had fun handing out candy for the first time as a married couple. The first year, Halloween landed on a Sunday, so we didn't have any trick-or-treaters. Last year, we were living in his aunt's basement apartment, so we didn't get any.

Corn Mazes & Pumpkin Carving

This weekend was a blast! (for the most part.) Friday night, Doug and I went to the corn maze at Thanksgiving Point. The guy told us it would take about a half hour to do the entire thing, and we were less than half way done by the half hour mark. Nicole and I were freezing, so we ended up cheating and asked a worker the quickest way out. It still took us at least an hour all together. Then we came back to our house, turned on some tunes, and carved pumpkins. Nicole and I had some apple cider, and the boys had cocoa, it really hit the spot! You can view the rest of the pictures here, or clicking on "My Pictures" to the left. Saturday, we got up and went to the U of U hospital for an ultrasound and a check-up. Then we went to the labor and delivery area where we met up with Matt and Christy (Matt is Doug's best friend.) They had their baby last week, but found out that he has down syndrome. Pretty sad, but Joshua is such a cute baby! He's only 4 lb. 8 oz., he was born 4 weeks early. We went to Tepanyaki with one of Doug's co-workers and his wife. We watched scary movies the rest of the weekend.
Today was our second insemination procedure, so I took the day off work because last time, I felt pretty crampy the rest of the day. Buddy was pretty needy all day, he just wanted to sleep in my arms so I didn't get any work done. Gotta go make dinner now!

Here's my first video using my new video editing software. Keep that in mind while judging it. Enjoy!

Buddy's Costume

Here's a picture of Buddy in his Halloween costume. I know, I can't believe I'm dressing up my dog either, but I have no kids to dress up yet, and I thought it was a funny outfit. He'll be our little stinker for Halloween! You can see him desperate to get out of it in the middle one. We got him some devil ears as well, but he took those off in like 10 seconds.

Our not-so-eventful weekend

Well we found out this weekend that our first round of insemination didn't work, so we're trying it again. Dr. Huang said that we should discuss in vitro with him if this doesn't work after 3 or 4 times of treatment. We really like our doctor, he's very open and always tells us everything to expect and what's going on. I went in for my ultrasound today to make sure there aren't any follicles left over from my last cycle, and I have to inject myself with hormones again until Saturday. We'll go in for another ultrasound at that point to see where I'm at, and go from there. At least I know what to expect this time around.
We didn't do much most of Saturday and Sunday because I wasn't feeling very well. We went and saw Flicka Saturday night, and I thought it was way cute. Granted I may be biast because Tim McGraw is in it and I really like him, but it was a good feel-good movie. We came home and hung out at home the rest of the night. Doug found a mouse in our kitchen (ew!), we put out a mouse trap but haven't caught it yet. I've been afraid to go into the kitchen by myself ever since he found it. I know, I'm a wuss, but I've come to terms with it. I'll write more later.

Sorry, no pictures

Doug and I seemed to have a crazy weekend! Doug spent Saturday morning cleaning out the garage and cleaning the cars, then moved all his tools from the garage to the basement since he's working on the hutch from his grandpa. We'll also be working on finishing the basement in January, so he'll need his tools down there anyway. I spent the morning cleaning out our office closet, and combining everything from the 3rd bedroom closet into the office closet. That made room for all the baby stuff Eliza gave us in the 3rd bedroom closet. That was all in the basement, so I'm also doing my part in making room for finishing the basement. We still need to go over stuff under the stairs, but there wasn't time for that.
We then got ready for the day and had to leave for the stores, where Doug exchanged the shoes we got him last week for more comfortable ones at Kohl's. I also bought him a new sander so he can finish his hutch and the chair that I got from my mom early this year. I want to reupholster it and sand the paint off the arms. We made a run to CostCo, and made it home just in time to be late to having dinner with my cousin Corinne, whom we just found out lives in Lehi as well! We had lasagna and I brought pumpkin pie for dessert. We played hand and foot and had a great time. And of course, Sunday was our lazy day.
I got my video editing software this weekend as well, and have been fooling around with that, learning how to use it. I'm so excited to make my first video!

Bedroom Almost Finished

We went to the home expo in Sandy this weekend with our friends Mike and Nicole. I ended up buying this vinyl lettering there that spelled out "Sweet Dreams" and thought it might look good above our bed. We got the same color of lettering as the surrounding walls of our red wall. Here are some pictures of how the hanging of that turned out, and how the red wall turned out. Luckily, we didn't have to start all over on it! The only thing I still want to do in here is get a shelf to put our wedding picture on. It's the picture sitting on the dresser next to the TV.

Finishing Touches

One of my birthday presents awhile back was the floor lamp in the picture. I wanted to finish our living room, and was finally able to do so. I also bought that bowl and potpourri recently for our coffee table. You can just barely see it at the bottom of the second picture.

Buddy's new haircut

Isn't this awful? Buddy looked so cute last week. We took him to the groomer yesterday, and he looks like a totally different pooch, almost rat-like! I thought I'd share with you the before and after. At least this way, we only have to take him every other month.

Conference weekend

This past weekend was conference weekend, so Doug and I were able to watch all 4 sessions from our house. It's kind of nice being able to watch it right in the comfort of your own home wihtout having to get ready and dressed to go watch it somewhere else. We invited Mike and Nicole over for waffles Sunday morning so that was yummy. They invited us over last conference weekend for crepes so it has almost become a tradition. While I was watching conference Saturday afternoon, I got the itch to paint our bedroom. So we went out and bought stuff to do that this weekend. The "brown bread" color turned out well, but our red wall is still a work in progress. Since we weren't given enough primer to cover the whole wall, we left it off the edges to see if it really mattered. Can you tell where the primer is? We'll see if we can just prime the edges now without having to start all over. I'll let you know how that goes.

Birthday weekend

We had a busy, fun-filled weekend! Friday, we got a second opinion from a fertility doctor, and he had much better news for us. He said that since we have undiagnosed infertility, that he doesn't see why we shouldn't start with insemination instead of in-vitro. That was music to our ears considering insemination will only cost $1500-$2000/month, compared to in-vitro which will cost $11,000/month. So, we can start with the IUI (insemination) right away. He says if it's going to work, it usually will within the first 4-6 times of trying. We'll probably reassess after the 2nd or 3rd if it hasn't worked by then. Pray for us!
Friday night, we went out to dinner with our friends, Rachel and Brady, to Chili's. Then we came back here and watched Benchwarmers. It was pretty funny, but I fell asleep before it was over... Then Saturday night we went out for sushi with Mike and Nicole at a place called Mikado (there's a picture of us above.) Sushi is now one of our favorite foods! Then we came back to our house and played Friends Trivia. I was impressed that our husbands beat us.
Today, Doug's parents had me over for a birthday dinner. They got me some Shade brand shirts, they're longer shirts that I love. Cassidy got us some more towels (oversized ones even!), some cooling racks, and the new Rascal Flatts CD. Good times!

This weekend

Well Doug and I met with our fertility doctor Friday, and he basically told us that in order to get pregnant, we'll need to do IVF, which sucks becuase that's going to be about $11,000. He said any kind of insemination wouldn't work, so we have been thinking about that a lot this weekend. We decided to get a second opinion, so we'll see what happens there.
Last night, Doug and I hung out with our good friends and next door neighbors, Mike and Nicole. They're our age and they don't have kids either, so we have a lot of fun with them. We went out for thai food, which Doug and I had never had before. I didn't think it was too bad, and Doug thought it was a nice break from the norm. Then we decided to watch a scary movie, and since Mike and Nicole had never seen The Ring, we just watched that. Doug and I came home and changed into some sweats and walked over. Nicole was so funny, she kept covering her eyes during the scary parts.

Today, Doug and I got new cell phones since our contract is up next month, and since our current phones were pretty shot. I'll have to get a picture of us with them since I know you all are SO curious about that. A couple days ago it was over 80 degrees, and today it was actually snowing! It only snowed here for a couple minutes, but it has been raining for like the last 24 hours. We did a lot of shopping today for a birthday present for me, but even though I had a list, I couldn't find anything that I liked. Isn't that always how it goes? I decided that I want to finish my living room, so we're looking for floor lamps and a video cabinet. Let me know if you have any good ideas on the cabinet. We finally got exhausted and went to Tsunami for some sushi. Yum! Now we're just back hanging out. His friend Matt and his wife Christy are coming over for dinner tomorrow night, so that will be fun since we haven't seen them in a couple months. So nothing too exciting, but thought I'd still give an update!

Sunday, September 10, 2006

We were finally able to put in most of our backyard this weekend! Doug did the sprinklers a few weeks ago, and our neighbor helped us put in our sod last Thursday. Okay, more like our neighbor put it in himself. I tried to help, but after like 10 pieces, I ran out of strength. Doug got home from work just in time to help with the last row or 2. Then yesterday, we went to a nursery and planted some tulips and clematis. You can't see the tulips, but those purple flowers are the clematis.

Labor Day weekend

Well this weekend was pretty bittersweet. For those of you who haven't heard yet, we found out that my sister, Eliza, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Doug and I were glad we were able to go out to Colorado for Labor Day weekend and spend some time with the family during this difficult time. Most of the pictures we took were of Eliza and Jon's family, so feel free to view all the pictures here. Also, if you're interested in following Eliza's road to recovery, feel free to follow her blog here. I'm also adding her blog to my links. We were able to see Heather's new house, and see Brandy with a pregnant belly. She looks so cute! My cousin Katie drove out there with us, and she and my aunt Holly drove back with us. Hopefully I can go out and spend about a month with Eliza and her kids and help out when it's truly needed. Hope everyone is doing well and please keep Eliza and our family in your prayers.

Prison Break

Every once in awhile, some of my friends and I get together to watch Prison Break, since we all watch it anyway. Last night was the season premiere, so of course we had to get together. We had a BBQ, and Melinda went all out and got a cake from Baskin Robbins that said "Prison Break Party!" on it.

Doug's grandpa buys tickets to the rodeo every year for their family. Here are a few pics from that. I also wanted to test my cookie-making skills, so I made some cookies for a neighbor that just had a baby.

Idaho trip

We stopped to see Grandpa on the way to Idaho Falls for Cassidy's open house. We recorded a few stories he told us, click here to view those. You'll also see both of Cassidy's wedding music videos that I compiled. There was a romantic video and a family video. Here's a quick snapshot of Grandpa, and Doug and I at Idaho Falls when we went up there for Cassidy's open house July 29th.

First Blog

Hello everyone! One of my old college friends has a blog on here to stay up to date with family and friends, so I thought I'd try it out and see how it works.
Doug started his new job a couple weeks ago, and he's loving it! He has Friday's off so he always gets a 3-day weekend. I still love my job with working with our company website. It's so fun and I love being the mastermind behind some of the changes we make. That's all for my first comment!
